The role An established and growing MEP consultancy is looking for an experienced both a Senior Mechanical Design Engineer and a Senior Electrical Design Engineer to join its building services team. The role is based in Peterborough, with hybrid working and regular work across London. You’ll lead mechanical/electrical design projects across sectors including commercial, logistics, education, retail, leisure and residential. MECHANICAL Key Responsibilities * Lead mechanical building services design covering HVAC, heating, ventilation, domestic water, drainage and BMS coordination. * Produce engineering calculations, specifications, reports and technical documentation. * Develop designs, layouts and construction drawings using AutoCAD/Revit MEP. * Lead projects from concept through to completion, managing deliverables, deadlines and budgets. * Carry out site surveys, inspections and site visits. * Coordinate with architects, structural engineers, contractors and wider project teams. * Ensure designs comply with CIBSE, British/European Standards, Building Regulations and CDM. * Incorporate energy-efficient and low-carbon solutions into designs. * Support BREEAM, LEED, NABERS and sustainability requirements where applicable. * Mentor and provide technical guidance to junior engineers and technicians. Review design outputs and maintain strong QA/QC standards. Manage multiple projects, workloads and deadlines effectively. Required Experience * Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Building Services Engineering or equivalent. * 7–10+ years’ experience in mechanical/building services design. * Strong knowledge of HVAC and mechanical building systems. * Proficiency with AutoCAD, Revit MEP and ideally IES, Hevacomp or similar. Strong understanding of UK Building Regulations, CIBSE and industry standards. * Knowledge of BIM/ISO 19650 and digital engineering is desirable. * Experience with low-carbon technologies and energy-efficient design. * CEng or working towards chartership through CIBSE, IMechE or equivalent is desirable. ELECTRICAL Key Responsibilities * Lead electrical building services design across RIBA Stages 1–6/7. * Produce and review electrical calculations including cable sizing, fault levels, voltage drop, lighting, earthing and bonding. * Produce technical drawings, schematics and specifications using AutoCAD/Revit MEP. Manage electrical design packages across multiple projects, ensuring quality, budget and deadlines are met. * Ensure designs comply with BS 7671, Building Regulations, British Standards and CDM requirements. * Coordinate with clients, architects, mechanical/structural engineers and contractors. Attend design meetings, site visits and client meetings. * Contribute to improving design standards, processes and technical delivery. Keep up to date with emerging technologies including PV, battery storage, EV charging and low-carbon design. Required Experience * Degree/HNC/HND or equivalent in Electrical Engineering, Building Services Engineering or a related discipline. * Strong experience in electrical building services design within a consultancy, contractor or similar environment. * Strong knowledge of BS 7671, Building Regulations and relevant British Standards. Proficiency with AutoCAD, Revit MEP and electrical design software such as Amtech/Trimble, Dialux, Relux or ETAP. * Proven experience leading electrical design packages across multiple projects. * Good understanding of BIM and collaborative design environments. Experience with renewable/low-carbon technologies such as PV, battery storage and EV charging. CEng status or working towards chartership is desirable. * Full UK driving licence and willingness to travel to sites/client meetings
