Senior Town Planner

Job Title: Senior Town Planner Location: Exeter Penguin Recruitment are delighted to be supporting a highly regarded and growing planning and development consultancy with the appointment of a Senior Town Planner to join their Exeter team. This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced planning professional to join a specialist consultancy that provides commercially focused planning advice to landowners, developers and investors across a diverse range of development projects. The consultancy has built a strong reputation for providing clear, strategic planning advice and helping clients identify opportunities, manage planning risk and successfully navigate complex planning projects. The Role As a Senior Town Planner, you will take responsibility for a varied portfolio of projects, providing strategic planning advice and managing projects from initial feasibility through to planning permission and delivery. You will work closely with clients, Local Planning Authorities and multidisciplinary consultant teams, giving you excellent exposure to a broad range of development projects across the South West and wider UK. Key Responsibilities: Managing a diverse portfolio of planning projects from inception through to completion. * Providing commercially focused planning advice to landowners, developers and investors. * Preparing and submitting planning applications across a range of development types. * Undertaking planning appraisals and assessing development opportunities and constraints. * Developing strategic planning approaches to maximise development potential and manage planning risk. * Reviewing planning policy, planning history and relevant legislation. * Managing and coordinating multidisciplinary project teams and external consultants. * Leading on pre-application discussions and negotiations with Local Planning Authorities. * Managing planning applications through to determination. * Supporting strategic land promotion and development plan representations where required. * Preparing planning strategy reports, statements and supporting documentation. * Attending client meetings, site visits and stakeholder meetings. * Building and maintaining strong relationships with clients, planning officers and other stakeholders. * Supporting planning appeals and inquiries where required. * Identifying potential issues early and developing effective solutions. * Supporting business development and contributing to the continued growth of the consultancy. * Mentoring and supporting more junior members of the planning team.About You: Relevant degree in Town Planning, Geography or a related discipline. * Strong previous experience within town planning, ideally gained within a planning consultancy. * Good understanding of the UK planning system and relevant planning policy. * Proven experience managing planning applications and projects independently. * Strong experience providing planning advice to clients. * Excellent written and verbal communication skills. * Confident dealing with clients, Local Planning Authorities and other stakeholders. * Strong commercial awareness and a proactive approach to problem-solving. * Excellent project management and organisational skills. * Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines effectively. * Experience working across residential, commercial, strategic land, regeneration or other development sectors would be advantageous. * RTPI Chartered or working towards MRTPI would be highly desirable. * Full UK driving licence and access to a vehicle would be advantageous due to site visits.This is a fantastic opportunity for a Senior Town Planner looking to take the next step in their career, gain greater responsibility and work on a diverse range of commercially focused planning projects within a growing consultancy.
